An Introduction

Written by: Rani Gupta, LCSW

If you’re here, it’s likely because you’re seeking a shift in your life: a shift from all the bullshit at work, a shift in your relationships, or a shift within yourself.

Years ago, when I was pulling 10-12 hour days at work, I, too, was desperate for a shift. I rarely got to spend time with my friends or visit family. My body revolted in the form of chronic illness flare-ups, which necessitated ER visits and intermittent medical leave from work. I was too exhausted to practice guitar, read for fun, or cook myself a meal I actually enjoyed. The morning drive to work slowly became a routine of listening and sing-screaming along to The Cure’s Disintegration…which would’ve been very on-brand for 15-year-old mall goth Rani, but not great for 20-something-year-old Rani.

Something needed to change.

So, I decided to start my practice. I set aside dedicated time to see my own healthcare providers - no more squeezing in appointments and rushing back to work. I began to regularly see friends again and have band practice. I slowly started to read for fun again (ok, I’m still working on this!). Even though life still has its stressors, they are much easier to deal with now.

Writing a blog is a new endeavor but one that, I think, will be pretty fun! This blog will likely be many things: part book review, part clinical thoughts, part storytelling. My hope is that it serves as a small reflection of what informs my clinical practice and that you get some new information and some moments of enjoyment.
